Cup of Chicha: another blog

another blog

I'm finally feeling brave enough to link to my newest blog, simply called Another. Initially, it was meant to be a diary, a dumping grounds for posts that felt too personal and self-indulgent to inflict on this Cup's readership. But the new blog changed genres and became something more specific when I realized that the only posts I'm hesitant to put here are the ones dealing with depression; and so, Another became a "literary" mental health blog, focusing on the relationship between writing and depression, but also linking to abstracts of clinical studies, essays about therapy, and reviews of recent and relevent books.

Some posts that may (or may not) appeal to this Cup's readers include

a long essay about the rhetoric we use when linking creativity and mental illness. The essay is partly a response to the latest spate of articles on James Kaufman's silly paper, "The Cost of the Muse: Poets Die Young."
an account of my changing relationship to writing, titled I Married Language (And Now She Doesn't Want to Fuck Me).
an excerpt from Chase Twichell’s essay, “Toys in the Attic: An Ars Poetica Under the Influence,” in which Twichell discusses the subtle effects that depression and anti-depressants can have on the writing process.
a series of reflections on memory, memoir, and emotion. ("When I write about the past, I don't preserve it; I lose it; I experience autobiography as sacrifice.")

You know, I've been sort of couting coo with this blog for awhile now, mostly a bit...well, I kept coming back. But every few days or so I thought "Well, okay, time to take this off the bookmark list" but I never did. My gut wouldn't let me. I really liked your mind and approach, but the actual content was either redundant with other blogs or, well. You get the idea.

"Another" is the blog from the mind that writes Cup of Chica that I've been waiting for. It's the reason my gut wouldn't let me leave.

that's some serious bs above--this blog is not redundant. and what the heck is "couting coo"? my only complaint is when you don't post frequently enough, but then i tend to think you make up for quantity with quality.

i think chicha has one of the most distinctive voices out there, and the refusal to stay up with the ever-more-merciless "meme time" of the blog format works to her advantage -- she holds off and thinks about things, then posts thoughtful mini-essays instead of just weighing in. cup of chicha is on my bookmark to stay, and any new sub-blogs are just icing on the cake -- or cappucino foam on the cup?

I really enjoyed Another blog--a very thoughtful reflection on the swings in your relationship with language. It's inspiring to see a literary blogger experiment with the blog format and produce something new. Thank you.
