In my last post, I quoted Tom Shale as saying that, in next week's "Sex and the City," a crisis befalls the SATC woman least prepared for it.
Unfortunately, television's surprises are so formulaic that the real spoiler is always the mention of a "surprise." Once it's mentioned, all the clues fall into place. 1. From Shale's article: "Cattrall, who has sometimes been reduced to serving as a mere dispenser of racy one-liners, gets a chance to demonstrate her range and depth in these final episodes as Samantha faces weightier issues than how she'll find sexual satisfaction tonight, and every night." 2. From a NY Times article: "Samantha, the show's sexual adventurer — a kind of stylized superhero of cheerful promiscuity — is rumored to face issues of mortality this season." 3. In the trailer for next week's episode (not available online), Samantha considers getting a boob job. 4. From Shale's article: "… The character who gets the bolt from the blue is the one viewers might think is the least prepared to deal with it."
The obvious "surprise": Samantha finds a lump in her breast, possibly malignant. Call it a threshold revelation, cause I'm willing to bet money.
