I like this TV show rich girls but had to stop watching due to a show where the girls were with a fried that had just returned from Africa. They all watched a video tape of her visit and wanted to donate mattress to the country.... Then preceded to discuss how their 400$ shoes were not as important as the hungry people of Ethiopia and also how the wanted to do something and then write about in a teen magazine? The next scene after that had the three girls getting a private yoga lesson at their home...what had happened to the burning fire the had had just seconds ago? I understand that they are only 18 but they are what's wrong with America today...we see Americans who pretend like they care and then go right back to their "rich" lives and forget about the rest of the world.....I am not rich nor am I poor but I would rather instead of watching rich girls prance around NYC and shop and cry over spilled milk go out and do something for Americans who need the money they so carelessly spend.....Last year my family went and took a thanksgiving dinner to a welfare hotel in NYC ....the family was so happy and they were going to just have beans for dinner ...that was better than any platform shoe I ever brought (on sale)

I have to admit that the show is entertaining. Alli seems sweet ( can't tell yet if it's for real), but Jaime acts like a big baby. However, I think many people are missing the sick fact about the whole show. It's purposly rubbing in the facing of the less fortunate just HOW much less money they have. It's really sad and I'm not a bit impressed by the money these girls have. While I'm sure their parents have worked hard, I can guarantee many average people have worked harder to give their familes a financially mediocre life. I in no way have it rough, and my family has always been very comfortable, and I wouldn't change that. The problem used to be that everyone on TV was thinner than normal teenage girls. That fad started to slow down...now everyone's richer. they can say that the purpose is to show that they are just like everyday people...but if that were the case, it wouldn't be titles "RICH Girls".

I would have to agree…I am from the Midwest and have never bought a pair of cargo’s for the pockets. One thing that I do think is funny is that so many people want to bitch about this show yet they still turn it on and watch it. Why? Because that’s the cool thing to do, MTV says so. Well, after reading all those comments I now have to my say. I personally 'love' the show. Yeh, it sucks that they are filthy rich and I am not, but I love it because it is fascinating to see how some people live. I have to ask -- what is the new fucking obsession with rich people in America? When our country is in a recession, no one is better entertainment than Paris Hilton, Hilfig's daughter, and their respective side-kicks, all of whom really never have to do anything for the rest of their lives. Lately I have been finding myself likeing Jaime moreso than Ally...Ally just annoys me and on the last episode I'm sorry but Jaime was so in the right while Ally was in the wrong. Jaime told her she could go to Greece, she didn't ask u to plan ur life around her. I've seen every episode, excluding one. I think Ally and Jaime are both pretty, and it's really mean to say they're ugly. I mean, are you perfect looking? I doubt it. I'm somewhat jealous of the money they have, but I think sometimes they spend it too frivilously. Don't get me wrong...I'm not a really frugal person, but sometimes they buy really ugly, overpriced clothes. And they act very new-money. New-money people spend their money a little too easily, while old-money people are more frugal. Though I am jealous of the house in Nantucket. One of my favorite scenes was seeing Tommy Hilfiger wearing Nantucket Reds, since I love Nantucket Reds! I also love when a character wears a Lacoste or Ralph Lauren polo shirt. Does anyone else think Michael V. is cute? I mean, he's kind of a jerk, but he IS really cute! And he's Republican...so perfect! Does anyone remember the dress Jaime wore to her graduation? Just because she's going to an extension of an Ivy League school still doesnt mean much to me. Donate enough money or have a famous enough name and you can go anywhere. Did you know that the SAT was created in the 50's by people who realized that the "elite" Ivy League schools were full of just rich kids or alumni's kids and they wanted to even the playing field? If she is smart, then good for her, but with all that money for private schools, private tutors, those expensive SAT prep courses, and an Ivy League school tuition, I would expect her to at least go to a decent school. What Im trying to say is I doubt she got in to this school based on her own hard work and determination.

I think the girls seem bored. I mean if you have the money to buy any thing you want whenever you want, the excitement of that would go away eventually. They seem to spend a lot of time just lying around talking shit. Here I was worried that the world would percieve mid-westerners as simple, unenlightened,and unable to function decently in a pair of cargo pants without obsessively stuffing the pockets with tools, sod, and fish bait. But thank goodness MTV and Fox have cleared things up with their informative shows--the world would have gone on assuming that we use the bathroom in outhouses and buy our walls at "wall mart" (Simple Life/Paris). Of course these girls should be using their money for good, philanthropic things. Of course they should be as focussed and directed as the rest of us who are so wisely spending our time....oh wait---what the crap---how did I ever end up posting on a website in a conversation about a T.V. show---could it be that even though they are not entirely accurate in all of their perceptions about the rest of the world (mid west AND ethiopia), that these two girls are somewhat typical? What 18 year old is perfectly behaved, non-attitudinal, balanced, sure of their place in the world, and happily adjusted between adulthood and childhood? I wish I had something insightful or profound to say, but the truth is, I don't. At first, I watched the show with the intention of making fun of the girls, of hating them, and of thinking of myself as morally superior to them. I wanted to believe that they are snobby, unkind, unfeeling people...but if you watch, you can see that they genuinely care about other people...and that they genuinely care about each other. They constantly talk about how blessed and lucky they are to have such wonderful lives, and they want to make a difference in the world. So, instead of focusing on buckteeth and body weight, why not focus on their character? Ultimately, Jamie and Ally are two RICH GIRLS with GOOD HEARTS.

I think that was sort of the point of Rich Girls. Ally and Jaime produced the show themselves, so right away that shows you that they are very dedicated in what they do. When I first saw a commercial for the show, I thought it was ridiculous... reality TV at its darkest hour. And then I happened to watch it one day. It's become one of my favorite shows. It makes me happier just to watch it, even though I have nowhere near as much money as they do. I think it's because people strive for money in America today. We all think if we could just be a little richer, we would be happier. Because of Rich Girls, we see that no matter how much money you have, we're still just human: we have problems, we have faults, we have bad times... but we are still alive, we have many things to be thankful for, and we are all in charge of our own happiness. Ally and Jaime have repeatedly said they are thankful for what they have, and talk about wanting to help those less fortunate. Yes, maybe they plan more than they actually do, but haven't you ever done that? Ally and Jaime are both beautiful in their own individual, spiritual ways. Every person has something that makes them beautiful. The fact that so many people would judge them based on looks alone, and even their attitudes sometimes, just makes me sad. I'm sure that those who would comment about them hatefully have never made a mistake or acted badly in their lives, especially at 18, when you're just learning who you really are. People aren't perfect. Just because they're rich doesn't mean they have to be perfectly physically beautiful!! Just another reason why I really like the show. And by the way, as far as people go, I think Ally and Jaime are both very pretty.
Ally has an innocence and awe about life that is really refreshing, and Jaime's range of emotions and how deeply she feels them are probably going to make her a great writer.
And as for their parents and what they were born into: did you get to pick and choose your life and your parents? Obviously not. Nobody does. So being prejudiced against them because they're rich is unfair.
I know this sounds really corny and touchy-feely, but I just can't understand why people have so much hate for each other... I just can't even fathom why people can't just accept each other for who they are.
I think the girls did a great job on the show. It got ME one step closer to realizing my own happiness, maybe if you open your eyes and give it a chance it can do the same for you.

I like the show but it seems the only rich girl is Ally Hilfiger. Jaime is just a wannabe that goes everywhere Ally invites her to. The show's title should be changed to Ally- the Rich Girl (and her wannabe friend).

I bet Ally's friend, Liz has a lot more money than Jaime. The show should have been about Ally and Liz, they are both super cute and so down to earth, unlike the fatter chick.

Jaime and Ally are noth good people who just happen to be rich. At least they aren't stuck up little bitches! You can't choose the way you look and I'm sure Jaime and Ally have been unsure about their looks, just like everyone else. to clarify: barnard is *NOT* an ivy league college although it does participate in a school consortium with columbia. barnard used to be the girl counterpart to columbia when columbia was an all-male school, but now it is co-ed. just clarifying because although the ivy league does let in lots of rich people, not all rich people are ivy league.

and the ivy league is just an athletic circuit anyway.

I would just like to say that, as a student in her last year of study at an Ivy League institution, money doesn't get you in. A student's acceptance is based on his or her academic, social, and extracurricular acheivement. That said, academic intelligence has nothing to do with common sense, nor does it mean that one should be all-knowing at the ripe old age of eighteen. Nearly everyone at my school was valedictorian of their high school class, and some of them just don't have any sense, cannot speak well, etc. You have to remember that intelligence and perfection are not exclusive. Also, just because you're wealthy doesn't mean you should be what society deems attractive. While I think the girls are silly, they are typical insecure, self-absorbed teenagers who decided to put themselves in the media limelight.

I love the fact that Ally comes off as such an exotic and caring girl. She seems so passed the fact that she has money. I wish the show was about Ally and her friend Liz. Liz is SO much better than Jaime. She's sweet and beautiful, two things that Jaime certainly is not.

I think rich girls is soooooo funny! Ally is so down to earth, but jaime needs to lighten up a bit. They are both great people and would make lovely friends, i just cant understand why jaime worries so much, wen she really has no need, She's minted for life. i don't have a problem with ally & jaime being born into rich families and being able to spend money like water, but i do have a problem with their attitudes. ok, maybe not so much ally's because she's mentioned on the show numerous times that she'd like to be independent and doesn't want to rely on her father for everything.
jaime, on the other hand, carries this attitude like she's better than everyone simply because she's rich. for god's sake, she didn't make the money. if, today, she was the one who accumulated the fortune, then it'd be ok for her to look down on people who aren't half as rich as she. i also hate how she fronts like she's smart when some of the comments that she makes leaves you wondering how she even graduated from elementary school (i.e. ben franklin invented the light bulb; she's the reincarnated muhammed ali, who, btw, is not even dead yet). she constantly mentions that her circle of friends are the brightest people in the world when a lot of them are just spoiled brats (i.e. michael V. who whines that he doesn't want to sit on a bus with stupid people... he'd rather get chauffered around). if she considers them to be bright, i'd like to see what she considers to be idiotic.

Hi, i´m a girl from germany and i love to watch "Rich Girls". everyone who talks bad about ally and jamie are very jealous of them. Obviously..They are in the lucky situation to live life like they want. Without worries..who don´t want that?!?!
They are both cute in their own way and this is a show for entertaining..don´t be so serious!! This girls are not the only rich ones, just the first ones who made a tv-show out of it.

Some of you people are so shallow. Who are you to judge Jamie, Ally and their families? I loved their show and I wish MTV would do a second season. If you have such a problem with how lucky these girls are then why do you watch the show? and if you are so much better than them why do you continue to waste your time talking about them? I like the show Rich Girls for I like watching Alley. Jamie though is nothing but a sour face, jealous fuck. Jamie pissed me off when Liz and Alley where rooming in London and Jaime was left out. So what...who'd want that sour puss around anyways.

Fair enough with all the comments - Rich Girls clearly inspires plenty of feelings in the viewing public!
I've never really thought it's fair that riches should be passed down from generation to generation, but it's par for the course, and it's what happens, so there's not much anyone can do about it. I'm not hugely wealthy, but I don't envy Ally and Jaime their money, because if I wanted to be that rich, I would do something to make sure that I was. If you're not happy with your situation or finances, do something about it, don't bitch about people who do have money.
Sure, by taking part in the show, Ally and Jaime have laid themselves open to all sorts of criticism, but let's not get things out of proportion. Bitch as much as you like about their money and material excesses, but steer clear of criticising their looks. Genetics are inherited the same as wealth, and they had no say in either.
I think the show has succeeded in as much as it has sparked off debate and discussion, but let's not make Ally and Jaime into scapegoats for our own insecurities and jealousies.
