serial fillerTEV passes along news of “The Great Summer Read” — the NY Times’s plan to serialize four novels “in a 16-page newsprint supplement similar to the New York Times Book Review” starting July 12.
Unfortunately, “The Great Summer Read“‘s book choices look a lot like an Honors English summer reading list; instead of new, unconventional, or hard-to-find fiction, readers will be getting yet another printing of books like The Great Gatsby and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
What? And their point is? People who did not read those books in high school are not going to read them now and, does NYT think that the people reading their rag might be looking for exposure to a new voice, a new perspective, a new story? Sigh. It’s the absolute lack of imagination that gets me everytime.
