Wacko philiosophy is still philosophy, isn’t it? At least Dewey puts Parapsychology and Occultism (130) in the middle of the Philosophy section (100-149).

Oops — I see there’s more philosphy in 160-199. Psychology, the other category in the 100s, is just the 150’s. Funny how psychology was lumped in Dewey’s day with philiosophy, then for most of the 20th century would have been a happier fit in the Social Sciences (300s), and if they were starting over now they’d probably put it somewhere in the 570’s under Natural Sciences or with Medicine in the 610’s under Technology (Applied Sciences). Do you suppose psychology will march onward to Arts or Literature?

That Scientology handbook actually struck me as more Psychology than philosophy - crisis intervention, peer mediation (“increasing communication skills!”), treatment for drug abuse.

Is this really a discussion of the same Scientology Handbook I know? I’ve been using it for years and it’s terrific. Nothing odd about it.

By the way, helping people, improving conditions in life, clearing away the debris of bad relationships and stress: this has everything to do with religion. Christian churches have chaplains who help people. And look at eastern religions. They have a centuries-old tradition of helping people gain greater awareness and ability.

I really recommend you walk into a Scientology church and check it out. You may be very surprised to find out what Scientology is really about.
